Chlasts ProjectChemical-related injuries are common occurrences in a laboratory. They can, however, be avoided if the proper precautions and protective products are used while working with harmful chemicals. There are two kinds of safety products that can be helpful when working with chemicals is concerned: precautionary products and post-spillage safety equipment.

By using the proper precautionary products you can avoid many chemical-related injuries. Here, is a list of such protective gears that will protect you while working with chemicals:

  • Face screen equipped with chemical-resistant shield:
Most of these face shields have silicone coatings on the exterior. Silicone forms an inert wall and hence it protects you from hazardous and corrosive chemicals.
  • Chemical resistant aprons:
These aprons are usually made out of resilient material which is not affected by chemicals. They protect you from any spillage while working with chemicals. Such aprons are necessary because your clothes are not impervious to chemicals. In case of any spillage if they remain in contact with your skin it may be very harmful.
  • Protective gloves:
Since most of the work is done with our hands, protective gloves resistant to chemicals are the most important gear that you need to equip yourself with while working in a laboratory. Long sleeved gloves are preferable since they provide protection for a larger surface area.
  • Protective shoe covers:
Made of the same protective chemical-resistant materials, these covers help protect your feet in case of any spillage.
  • Protective sleeves:
These sleeves made out of impermeable material can prevent any chemical injuries on your arms.

Even after taking necessary precautions, sometimes accidents can still take place. In such cases, you should have the following post-spillage safety equipment handy:

  • Non-absorbent berms :
Helps you block hazardous spilled chemical to a certain area. This reduces the danger of it spreading to large areas so that it is easier for you to neutralize the chemical.
  • Resistant drain covers :
Helps you prevent the chemical from flowing through the drain and causing unwanted reactions.
